still life
For this series, we chose an object, or multiple ones in some cases, to photograph. I chose to photograph a purple artichoke because of the beautiful textures and the many layers to it. Every time you peel off some peels or a layer or peels, you can capture a completely different texture, which is truly amazing. I tried to photograph the artichoke at different angles, each time with different lighting. The point of this series was the capture both light and shadows on the object or on many objects, but in a controlled situation where you can move the lights around to find that perfect picture. One example of how different casting light onto something can make a huge difference, are my last two photos. They are taken at almost exactly the same angle, but since I moved the light around and cast different, dark shadows, the two pictures are actually quite different.

These photos illustrate the assignment perfectly. I love photo number one for its detail. Great Job.
ReplyDeleteI really love the lighting and staging of the first and third photos. Not only are the strong, but give a really nice angle of the artichoke. Also, the slight shadow in the third photo gives it a really nice feel. Good Job Rosie!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you used an artichoke for this assignment to capture different textures. The different angles, in which you took the artichoke in, were really amazing. I think you did a great job capturing both light and shadow with all your photos. My favorite photo you took was the second one because of the lighting. The bottom of the artichoke was light while the leaves were dark. I would recommend that you use a variety of subjects, but overall great job!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of closeness of these photos and how you were able to use the light to eventuate the detail of the food used. I feel like the use of the bottom of the artichoke was a bit overused but other than that, a job well done Rosie x
ReplyDeleteI like the macro in all these images, but however, you could have taken the background out with exposure/aftereffects. Otherwise, great job.
